What is polymorphism?

A principle of object-oriented computing in which a computing system has the ability to choose among multiple implementations of a method. The appropriate implementation is chosen by the system (object dbms or object-oriented programming language). Polymorphism permits a smaller vocabulary of procedures and incremental sharing of code.
