What is many-to-many (M-N) relationship?

In the entity relationship model, a relationship in which objects of each entity type can be related to many objects of the other entity type. M-n relationships have maximum cardinalities of more than one in each direction. In the relational model, two 1-m relationships and a linking or associative table represent an m-n relationship.
