What is inheritance?

A data modeling feature that supports sharing of attributes between a supertype and a subtype. Subtypes inherit attributes from their supertypes. In sql:2003, inheritance applies to both user-defined types and subtable families. Inheritance supports sharing of code and data among similar objects.
