Common data that multiple users try to change simultaneously. Without adequate concurrency control, users may interfere with each other on hot spots. A systemindependent hot spot does not depend on the details of a particular concurrency control manager. Typically, systemindependent hot spots involve fields or rows in a database. A system-dependent hot spot depends on the details of the concurrency control manager, especially the locking granularity.
