Plans made and proposed for the development of Karachi by the Government

According to the information made available to the National Assembly by the Minister for Planning and Development (Mr. Ahsan Iqbal), after 18th Constitutional Amendment, the Provinces have been constitutionally and financially empowered. Preparing plans and projects for the Provinces and cities is the responsibility of the Provincial Government concerned. Federal Government is transferring resources under the 7th National Finance Commission Award to Provinces as per their enhanced share. Provincial Governments are supposed to implement the subjects devolved after 18th Amendment.

However, the Federal Government is implementing about 67 development projects located in / around Karachi costing about Rs. 1044 billion including Karachi Sewerage Project (S-III) through various sponsoring Ministries / Divisions, under the federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2013-14. An amount of Rs. 15.2 billion has been allocated for these projects in PSDP 2013-14. One mega project “Karachi-Lahore Motorway” is at conceptual stage. The feasibility study of the said project is in process. Cost of the project will be firmed up on the basis of the feasibility study etc.
