Oracle DB Error ORA-01679 database must be mounted EXCLUSIVE and not open to activate

The following is the cause of this error:

An attempt to activate a standby database was made when the database was not mounted EXCLUSIVE or was already open.

Action you can take to resolve this issue: Mount the database EXCLUSIVE and retry the ACTIVATE command.
