Oracle DB Error ORA-01097 cannot shutdown while in a transaction - commit or rollback first

The following in the cause of this error:

An attempt was made to shut down the database while a transaction was in progress.

Action you can take to resolve this issue: Either commit or rollback the current transaction and then attempt to shut down the database.
