According to a notification, issued by the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), the LUMS team won the ‘Best Paper Award’ at the 15th International Multitopic Conference (INMIC '12) held in Islamabad on December 13 - 15, 2012. Hafsa Zafar (Research Associate and former MS Student) and Zeeshan Ali Rana (PhD candidate) carried out the award winning research under the supervision of Dr. Shafay Shamail and Dr. Mian Muhammad Awais, Associate Professors at the Department of Computer Science, SBASSE, LUMS. The award winning paper titled 'Finding Focused Itemsets from Software Defect Data' establishes, through association rule mining, strongly related critical ranges between software measures and the defective modules of software.
INMIC '12 was attended by many researchers from all over the world including Professor Emilia Mendes (Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden), and Angela Tuffley (Director, Systems and Software Quality Institute Pvt Ltd, Australia). This year more than 400 papers were submitted to INMIC, out of which 92 were accepted (acceptance rate of 23% approx).
The conference was organised by Riphah International University, Islamabad with technical co-sponsorship of IEEE Islamabad Section. The conference aspired to provide an opportunity for national and international researchers and practitioners to present the state of the art, state of the practice, and the future directions on various relevant topics. Extended versions of selected papers from the conference will be published in ISI Indexed Journal IET Software.
