CIE announces new qualification for schools in Nepal

According to a press release, issued by Cambridge International Examinations, the CIE and the British Council are delighted to announce the development of a new qualification for secondary school students in Nepal.

During a recent Cambridge schools meeting in Nepal, Cambridge International Examinations made a commitment to offer Cambridge International AS Level Nepal Studies. This followed a close collaboration on the introduction of the subject between the Ministry of Education, the British Council and the Cambridge Educators Association of Nepal (CEAN).

Over 20 schools have confirmed the adoption of the new qualification, which will be introduced for first teaching in 2015.

The new qualification will focus on certificating students' knowledge of the historical, geographical, social, political, and economical affairs of Nepal. It will also help students to relate various topics of their country within other Cambridge International A Level subjects.

Ann Puntis, Chief Executive of Cambridge International Examinations said: "We understand how important it is for Nepalese students in our schools to have a solid understanding of their country's culture, heritage and relationship with the wider world. That is why we have committed to work with our partners in Nepal, to develop a new qualification that meets our learners' needs and provides them with the skills and knowledge required for future success in education and in life beyond."

Cambridge International AS and A Levels, typically for learners aged 16 to 19, are regarded as a passport to success in education, university and employment and are taken in over 125 countries. They are taken by thousands of learners every year who gain places at leading universities worldwide and develop independent learning and constructive thinking skills – abilities which universities value highly.
